Mr. Karmenu Grima from Burmarrad Malta, better known as Charlie, is the proud winner of the first edition of the National Award for Self Achievement – B’Hilti Wasalt an initiative by the Peace Laboratory.
Mr Grima, a member of the Mission Fund, is a great benefactor of the Guatemala missions. He has visited the country several times to carry voluntary work related to several projects both in San Manuel Chaparron, Jalapa and Santo Tomas de Castilla, Izabal. He also works tirelessly all the year round to support our missions. Mr. Grima, who lost his father at a very young age had to work extremely hard to support his family of eleven siblings.
This award is intended to identify and acknowledge the work of unknown and unsung people who never give up whatever difficulties they encounter in life. Furthermore such individuals who were originally from the poverty risk sector had to demonstrate that in improving their economic status they were also empowering other individuals and showing evidence of social solidarity.
The ceremony was held at the Palace in Valletta under the distinguished patronage of Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, the President of Malta who presented the award and delivered a speech.
